John Maxwell's Live2Lead Report In

Short email today. I've been out the last couple of days at John Maxwell's Live to Lead event and got back late last night.

I gave my notes a quick scan to share a few points from the speakers with you:

"It's harder to lead yourself than to lead your team." - John Maxwell

Jesse Cole (owner, Savannah Bananas) is exactly what you'd expect, if you expect wicked smart, high energy and fun - but not a goofball, and he's extra high agency. (The evidence goes far far beyond the yellow suit.)

  • Make it about the moments. Eliminate friction points for the customer, be a friction fighter.
  • Experiment constantly. He probably mentioned more than 30 of their failed experiments in 30 minutes.
  • Start standing out. Do what others won't do, and be willing to be misunderstood.

It was exciting to see one of my former clients and book co-authors Anthony Trucks on stage. In fact, he had to follow Jesse Cole - which would be tough - and he nailed it.

Anthony's work is focused on helping others learn how to shift their identity in order to reach their potential. One quote that really stood out to me was:

"Successful people trust the vision and doubt the fear.

Unsuccessful people trust the fear and doubt the vision."

Valerie Burton's presentation on building a personal system of resilience had everyone's attention:

1) working on your adaptability (one of the six leadership muscles)

2) Using your protective resources. Know who you call on, and be willing to be authentic and share your situation. People can't help if they don't know.

3) Make choices that reduce the risk you'll need to be resilient.

Craig Groeschel (created the Bible app, most downloaded app in history) shared 4 ways you can get more out of yourself:

1) change what you believe is possible

2) Change how you empower people to grow

3) Change the way you create systems

4) Change what you believe about yourself

I'm really not doing them justice with such a short email, they were all fantastic on stage, enjoyable, and insightful. They're all worth checking out. I'll definitely be following them and staying involved with the Maxwell organization.

7 Things I Got From Joe Daniels About Crafting A Standout Point of View

You do not need more tactics; you need a point of view that cuts through.

  • Define your ICP by the marriage-material traits that truly drive fit.
  • Own one felt problem your ICP loses sleep over and stop hiding behind industry labels.
  • Separate founder from business so you can upgrade both instead of just turboing the hamster wheel.
  • Build your POV with four pillars: ICP, Problem, Blind Spot, Opportunity.
  • Treat the real competitor as the status quo or old way and give both the old way and your new way a name.
  • Aim to be differently better, not just louder or merely different.
  • Turn the POV into a daily practice with opinionated content and a cadence that prevents founder drift.
